2022 GIRLS FASTPITCH DIVISION RULES FOR 9/10

TEAM IN THE FIELD

1. A team will field no more than 4-outfielders who must begin play approximately twenty (20) feet behind the base path.


2. No position changes are permitted once an inning begins, unless determined by removal of the pitcher or a player that must leave the field.


3. As a minimum, a player must play every other inning in the field. No player can sit out a second inning until all players have sat out one inning.  All players must play at least one inning in the infield and outfield during the first three innings, and at least 2 innings in the infield per game. (If a coach has safety concerns about a player playing the infield, that manager must contact the BBA Rules Committee to advise them of the situation. The BBA Rules Committee can grant an exception to the rule if justified.) Violations of this rule shall be reported to the Commissioner.


4. Suspension of play:


a. By umpire judgement, when any fielder has control of the ball in the infield, a delayed dead ball occurs.


b. When a delayed dead ball occurs, any base runner not in contact with a base must advance or return to the base last touched, with the risk of being put out.


c. Any infielder that has control of the ball in the infield when a delayed dead ball occurs may attempt to put out any advancing or retreating base runner.  The base runner is not permitted to advance any further than the base that was being attempted. (Example: on an overthrow by any fielder, the base runner cannot advance past the base being attempted.)


5. A fielder mask must be worn by the pitcher, first baseman and third baseman.

TEAM AT BAT


1. The inning shall end after three outs or the team reaches the max run limit for the inning.


2. Any base runner leaving their base before the ball has been hit will result in a warning being given to their team at the time of the infraction.  A pitched ball at the time of the infraction shall be declared by the umpire to be a dead ball – no pitch. After one team warning, any offending player shall be declared – OUT. A pitched ball at the time of the infraction shall be declared by the umpire to be a dead ball – No pitch.


3. After the ball crosses the home plate, a runner on second base may steal third base. No further advance by the runner(s) is/are permitted.


PITCHING


1. While on the rubber and before the pitch is delivered, the pitcher must pause with hands together. Any underhand delivery is acceptable (underhand or windmill) and a toe drag is permitted.


2. A pitcher shall pitch no more than nine (9) outs per game.


3. If a pitcher hits 3 batters in one (1) inning, she must be removed from that inning. The pitcher cannot return to the mound until the next inning.


4. A pitcher removed from the mound may return once to the mound in the same inning, and may return to the mound throughout the game, as long as there is no violation of any other Pitching or Team in the Field player rules.


5. Intentional walks are not permitted. Violations shall be reported to the BBA Rules Committee.
